Done traveling. Or so I thought.

December 19, 2007

I’m finally done traveling for this year. I had just started this post in which I wanted to cheer over being back home for the holidays when Miles came walking in and asked me whether it would be OK to assign me to yet another project… off-site. In a project that is due before the end of this year the project manager realized today that they were in desperate need of another 80 or so man-hours. – I don’t have the time to write about the details, now, for I am getting ready to go… Oh, as an aside, I am supposed to take the laptop.

Me an Angeber?

December 13, 2007

Germans really have the best Schimpfwörter in the world. I’m messaging with Luke when he tries to send me a file. I tell him that there are 2 firewalls that block this kind of traffic. His cold response:

Angeber

Well, maybe I was showing off. What’s the best term for him, however, when he also proceeds to tell me that he has turned off his personal firewall? German, anyone?

Gossip updates. #4

Nicole is expecting. Now Miles is even more (and still openly) frustrated about his inability to knock up Judy.

Supposedly there is another couple around the office. According to Beth they even had sex on someone’s desk. Beth won’t, however, disclose any details; neither who was involved in the activity, nor on whose desk it took place. Frighteningly Beth is over 90% right when she brings up such issues. E.g. she was the first to talk about Miles and Judy.

We’re still hiring.

There’s more. And we haven’t even had the company (pre-) Christmas-party…

Train strikes in France AND in Germany.

Bummer.

Google knows everything.

November 13, 2007

Or so it seems. I have other websites, some of which disclose my real name, some of which use Google AdSense to generate revenues. On one particular website, one that is rather new and that discloses my full name only on one particular page (because it is part of my email address) I saw an AdSense/AdWords ad today that is run by a former client of mine. It basically consisted of the name of the company and a link to their homepage. Interestingly it was displayed on a page that doesn’t have my name nor their name on it. More interestingly my entire site doesn’t have their name on it. – Somewhat scary and I don’t yet know what to think. I do know, however, that I don’t want to raise too much awareness with people who know my real name, or the company, or both, for I am not sure of the consequences… both of the ad appearing in that context and of me discussing this.

Indians all over the place.

November 13, 2007

There were so many (East-) Indians at McDonalds today, that they easily outnumber the Indians (Native Americans) I have seen previously in my entire life. Now this may mean two things: Native Americans have been almost entirely driven out of the areas of the United States I travelled to and lived in so far. Or: I was at a very large McDonalds. Or both. (Yes, I’m still travelling. Guess where I’m at!)

Hey, Akismet, I’m not a spammer!

November 8, 2007

I usually try to avoid meta-posts. But this time you’ll have to bear the fuss. Akismet marks internal trackbacks from my own site to my own site as spam. That sucks.

Judy and Miles are letting everyone in on their plans to have kids. It seems like talking about it is the best contraceptive.

Roger is getting blamed for everything, and by everybody. And he’s still with the company. That’s actually quite amazing. Considering that “everybody” includes his boss.

And by the way: we’re still hiring.

Andrew has taken the laptop computer. On a private trip. Again. This time he’s off to the Middle East, then to the Southeast Asia.

The Basics.

November 7, 2007

Why is it so hard to

  • close the door behind yourself when you enter or leave the building?
  • put your coffee cup in the dish washer (not on top of it)?
  • flush the toilet, and to wash your hands?

I always thought those were the very basics.
